Improve Management of Asset Analytics

Improve PI AF Analysis Handling in PI System Explorer when working with hundreds of analysis with following features: - Possibility to sort Analysis/Analysis Templates in alphabetic order by Status, Element, Name, Template - Possibility to filter Analysis by Status, Element, Name, Template, Backfilling - Select all filters Analysis to Start/Stop and Start Backfilling Problem is when a certain set of a analyses are selected so they will be handled in one go. It is not possible to group the required ones in a contiguous section of lines in the PSE Management Add-In, manual selection is taking very much time. - Stop Backfilling for all selected Analysis !!! This is needed when a backfill is started and takes a long time, but during that period it is encountered that an expression correction is needed.

This has now been released within PI AF Client 2018 SP3 Patch 4. Please continue to provide feedback on what we have implemented and what we should consider in the future!

Please try out the 2017 release as the management plug-in has been enhanced to cover many of these features.

Hi Steve. It seems that even in 2017 we cannot sort the analysis view by columns.

With the 2017 release, you can create your own customized search/filtering of analyses in the management plugin. Please provide feedback on whether this suits your needs. There are difficulties allowing users to sort a very large list. The management plugin loads analyses by pages into the grid. This dramatically improves performance as we bring back 1 page of data at a time from SQL Server and display it immediately. With additional sorting options, we would need to find a way to sort potentially millions of analyses and then display them. This makes paging much more difficult. In addition, what we have seen is that there are many elements with the same name, for example "pump". In the case of a very large hierarchy, if you were to sort by "pump", you will end up with hundreds if not thousands or more "pump". I'm not sure that's all that useful. Your feedback is welcome.

We really need the sorting and searching functionality! it's very frustrating without this.

Hi Ken, Would you expect the sorting to affect only the page that you're looking at in the Management plugin or would you expect the sorting to affect all the pages? The reason I'm asking is imagine you have 100,000 analyses. In that case, in order to improve performance of the Management plugin, we implemented paging, which means we get back 1 page at a time from the server and display that as soon as possible to improve responsiveness of the user interface. Consequently, if you expect the sorting to affect all the pages together as one, it's much more impactful to performance and overall responsiveness for users with many analyses since we potentially have to retrieve everything before sorting as opposed to sorting only 1 page.

Allow sorting the search results by the various column headers in the Analysis Seaches located in System Explorer under the Management tab.  Sorting should be as easy as clicking on the column one would like to sort on (Status, Analysis Type, Element, Name, Template, Backfilling).

Will it be possible in any future version to filter out not by the element name, but the path to the element? I had a request from customer who would like to filter out analysis that are under specific part of the hierarchy as CompanyName\NPP1, CompanyName\NPP2 etc.

Could we add a way to natively export what we see in the Analysis Management Window? Have had a couple customers who wanted to gain a bit more insight than is provided by the management window - could potentially export to CSV and analyze offline to avoid impacting AF Backend performance. Analysis Util exports and provides alot of information, but is missing some key metrics. (i.e. Running Status, InError, etc.)

For the record, Devon Energy has a need and desire for the asset analytics management improvements mentioned by Koettih. We feel that element root filtering should be added as well.

I have a 2018 SP2 installation, and I'm not able to create a filter combining Service Status with Name. In fact, it doesn't look like I can combine any filter with Service Status. And since column sorting isn't possible either, I'm stuck picking one-by-one of the analyses either starting from analysis name and picking those with error, or going by Service Status=Error and picking those called "Daily Calcs". Why?

In response to Asle Frantzen, "I have a 2018 SP2 installation, and I'm ..." Service Status comes from PI Analysis Service.  The remaining filters come from AF.  To do what you described, we have to do some work combining these two sources.  We just have not gotten to implementing this.

In response to Stephen Kwan, "Service Status comes from PI Analysis Se..." Thanks for replying, Steve!   Of course I would like to see this implemented, but I do think this could have been avoided just by allowing column header sorting (EVEN if this meant doing it in the graphic component).

using wildcard in the Analysis Searches would be nice. Say I want to make a filter on all analysis starting with the Element name 'Netherlands'. For now it only allows a full match of the search criteria in element name. Other option would be the sugestion of Darya Malysheva.

When creating predefined Searches within the Management plugin when using PI System Explorer, you can create a search criteria using the Element name with wildcards, e.g. Elem* I just tried this and it seems to work. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting your question?

We have a lot of analyses and this would be highly beneficial. Sometimes we only know partially what we want and then to sort and filter from there for troubleshooting. No easy way of doing that even in the current release that we can find.

I believe the three items below would be beneficial 1. To filter analysis name by path Site\Area\Unit\* (as seen in the grid) 2. Add column sorting to the gridt 3. Allow Analysis 'status' filter to be combined with other filters

The filtering on Element Path with wildcards (*) would be very benificial for our work process and would simplify bulk handling of many analysis.

In AF every plant has his own path in one AF database (in our case). PI interfaces are often related to a certain plant. If we want to backfill all analysis based on data that came from a certain interface we want to filter on the element name for the plant and and option to include all descendants (elements lower in the AF hierarchie). Currently there is no possibily to select the analysis of an element and his descendants.

Have an easier way in the UI to find, select, and backfill 50 or 60 disparate assets such as wells. Currently analyses are a flat list.

I would love to hear an update from OSISoft on this specific request. When dealing with hundreds of thousands of analysis these features are sorely needed for day-to-day management of our environment. We have numerous single analysis templates having over 5k-50k running instances, making paging through 500 rows of non-sorted items to isolate a number of specific analysis to be enable/disable/recalc/etc not practical by any means.
