View AF XML exports in non-installable clients (outside PSE, Vision)

There is no ability to easily expand all of the nodes of an AF element hierarchy and print or export for offline viewing by people who do not have PI System Explorer installed. So in an attempt to view the element hierarchy outside of System Explorer I export the database, or even small portions of the element hierarchy, to try to view in Tree form in XML viewers such as XSD Diagram and many others, and keep getting the following error: There is an error in XML document (2, 2). <AF xmlns=''> was not expected We have a large group of people who aren't PI users that we need their input into the structure of the hierarchy and templates. Therefore, we don't want to put PSE on all their computers for a variety of reasons, but we still want them to be about to view and drill down.

This will be treated as a tech support case and not a new idea.

Hi Alan, I downloaded XSD Diagram and ran it. Unless I'm missing something, it's expecting an xml schema (.xsd) file and will show you the relationships between possible entities allowed by the schema, so that wouldn't include instances of AF objects, but rather the possible relationships between the types of objects defined in AF. When I attempted to run it against an xml file, I got the same error. My command line looked like this: xsddiagram Database1.xml Did you run it differently or use other options to run the utility?

If PI System Explorer becomes a web application, then the issue of people not having PI System Explorer installed will disappear. https://feedback.osisoft.com/forums/555148-pi-server/suggestions/31691545-pi-system-explorer-pse-pi-af-web
