Be able to sort Elements and be displayed in ways other than alphabetically.

We have seen several instances where we would like to have the order of element displayed in AF/Vision be sorted by process order, not alphabetically.  Suggest adding a "sort" field and an option to have element arranged by that rather than alphabetically.

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback on the PI Server. After further evaluation, we have decided to decline this item, as we are not planning on implementing it in the near future due to other high priority items across the PI System. Thank you for your feedback, and know that we are listening and reviewing every item that gets submitted!

Sequence Number as 1,2,3,4,etc is better than 1, 10, 11,12,2,3,4, etc

I realize this was decline but do want to mention that we've had several customers ask about this functionality and I agree with the other commenter that there are sometimes important orders for assets (like a sequence number) and a numerical preface is an extra burden.

We need to be able to force the sort order of the elements within the hierarchy. Many times you are trying to layout the elements in order of the process flow and this means they need to be in a specific order. We are forced to use naming conventions like 001,002,… to drive the sort order but this becomes cumbersome over time and can lead to errors if elements are renumbered. We would like to see a property on the element called sort order that could be adjusted to force the sort order. The ability to drag/drop the elements within a given hierarchy level into the correct order would also be useful.

Scott and I posted this two years ago while working for a different company. The issue still stands.. This is almost as important as having PI Vision folders.

Agreed - if one of the goals of AF and PI Vision is to allow users to better find the information they are looking for, adding the ability to order elements in a user defined manner would improve the user experience.

In my experience, operations teams rarely want to view things in alphabetical order, rather they like to see it in an order that makes sense to the layout of their area/department/plant/etc. I'm new to AF (after recently attending a recent OSI-taught course), but I could see the need immediately of having a sort order that was logical to the business as opposed to simply alpha or numerical order. I fully support this enhancement and would benefit from it immediately.

I see an OSIsoft admin has declined this request. I ask that this be revisited. Modern CMMS have the ability to sequence the asset hierarchy in a desired order, not the default alpha-numeric order. This is necessary to present the hierarchy information in context, in this case in a system flow sequence recognized by plant personnel. OSIsoft should hierarchy element re-ordering as a key feature to support intuitive hierarchy navigation, something that PI Asset Framework is touted to do.

Agreed 1000X I can't believe that I have to use prefixes to force the sort. Also (NOT) very fun to see Point 1, Point 10, Point 11, Point 2, Point 3... listed as such. So close and yet so far!
