Ability to Configure Display Digits of an Attribute in PI AF

As a PI Coresight user I would like the ability to configure the display digits of an AF attribute so I can control how attribute data is displayed on my PI Coresight displays. Right now, for PI Point data references the display digits must be configured in PI SMT with Point Builder. For any other type of attribute there is no  direct way to configure the display digits.

    1. Scientific notation is not always intuitive for users of Coresight to get quick information. They need to mentally convert to understand the magnitude, most people are used to comma’s at the thousands location and intuitively understand this. 2. Sometimes scientific notation actually makes the string longer. Example I have a Coresight display showing 2.3148E+05 (10 total digits) but the number preferred to show would be 231480 (6 total digits). Ideally have the option for 1000 deliminators as well would still be less digits: 231,480 (7 total digits).

    How do we get more people to vote for this? As I keep integrating to more and more databases, the need for this gets bigger and bigger. It is very annoying to have all of these integrated values show up as scientific notation and I can't do anything. As AF gets more and more powerful and implemented, the need for this grows even larger!

    I think this is not only limited to PI Coresight users. PI Point data referenced to not honor the display digits from the PI Data Archive. Is this request for that to be honored as well? Or is this request just for the other AF Attributes?

    It is really anoying to see such 15 decimal digits in a value... I bet on firmly for this proposal.

    A workaround exists for this issue: create a second attribute and format the value using string builder. I would also love to see this feature added. Hopefully this can assist in the meantime.

    What would be the desired behavior in something like PI System Explorer? Would you want each attribute to (potential) have its own display digits?

    Ideally you would show the same amount of digits as you have in PI Data Archive or to have an option to choose number of display digits for attributes

    I've had 5 different customers ask me about this one in the past couple of months. If this could be expedited, it would be amazing.

    The user should be able to set the number of decimal places or scientfic format for an Attirbute in a Template.  Then tools like DataLink, PI Vision, OLEDB Enterprise would use that format by default.  Each tool could then override the default format.

    Hi, I just can't believe that we can't set the number of decimals in AF, we have set dispaydigits to 3 for the PI points but in the notification we get 15 decimals... who wants such email? Engineers getting values like : 26.66335987774 instead of 26.63!

    Having display digits is great for PIVision 2017R2. native in AF is even better. We often use data aggregations to produce low res values that we may apply corrections to and use AF (analytics / formulas) to perform the correction. By this method, we are able to abrogate the need for analytic recalculation. We still however want the resultant AF attribute to respect the sig digits of the PI tag we are correcting for.

    I see the past discussion and can't tell if this is resolved or not.... I see how to control display digits in AF. Can I control the display digits in the notification emails?

    Yes, it is available in the AF 2018 release.
