Ability to add Category to elements that do not have "Allow Extensions" set in their template

As a user, I want to be able to add Category to my elements in an adhoc fashion without having to be constraint by the element template, so that I can easily distinguish between elements created from the same template.

Looking at the impact for Rollups where category is useful, one would like to apply the same reasoning to Attribute templates. But that i would say is a no, so i would say NO to this feature. If there is a need to categorize elements, then use a configuration attribute.

We are in need of this feature but applied to attributes. We actually have the scenario that rpalmen mentions in the comments section: we have attributes that we need to roll up, but we need to filter them, and the only way to do that is through categories. So we need to be able to add categories to attributes in an adhoc fashion.

In response to Amelia Millan, "We are in need of this feature but appli..." Hi Amelia, Not sure if i understand your case. Currently you can already assign categories to Attributes and use that in the RollUp.

@rpalmen You can add categories at the template level but you cant change the categories at the element level. As an example I want to rollup the average for all attributes marked as X, but by business reasons some attributes may change from X to Y (and not be counted for anymore) and as Categories are locked, we cannot do that using Rollups. The way to enable that is to use formulas in conjunction with Rollups and that make the solution cumbersome. A solution like a COUNTIF at the rollups would be ideal (if Categories could not be used). Anyways, as you can change Data Reference, the ability to change categories would be really useful as well.
