Our current recommendation is to use PI Builder for this task. We have no plans to replicate this functionality in PI SMT.

Can you provide more details? What information about the PI tags do you want to export?

The PI Builder add-in for Microsoft Excel is a great way to get all of the tag configuration information. Of course, if you don't use Microsoft Excel, then this won't work. In the Tools menu of PI System Management Tools, you will even see references to the old versions of PI Builder. Alternatively, you can use PI OLEDB Provider. It is a bit trickier to use compared to PI Builder, but the advantage of it is that it does not require Excel and it queries the tag configuration (dynamic) rather than exports it (static).
