PI Builder writing to Attributes that are Data References

PI Builder cannot write to Attributes that are Data References. It should be able to.

To follow up on this. 1) If you wish to change the PI Point data reference configstring, you can do that via PI Builder today. 2) if you wish to change the underlying PI Point value, we currently do not support that. We have no plan to add this capability as PI Builder was designed to be a configuration tool and not a data editing tool.

Is this only for PI Points? It's not valid for custom DRs and Table Lookups.

I get their rational for not allowing such a function out-of-the-box, however there should be a way to enable it from an advanced menu or through a bunch of dialog boxes forcing you to agree that you really really really know what you are doing before it proceeds. I frequently have to change a large volume AF attributes that are enumerations with PI Point data references, and having save off all of the changes needed and processing them through an AF SDK script is wildly time consuming, when I could have just made a mass Builder change in seconds.

Need some clarifications - do you wish to write a value to the attribute that is configured with a data reference? Or do you wish to write a configuration change to the attribute that is configured with a data reference?
