UniInt Interface to support Kerberos when connecting to network drive for failover file

My ops team tells me that our UniInt-based interfaces (e.g. PItoPI, PerfMon, OPC DA) authenticate to network drives (when reading/writing failover files) using NTLM. I'm told Kerberos is much more secure than NTLM and they would like to see that be an option. I opened a tech support case and they said NTLM is the only option for interfacing with the failover files.
