Reduce PI ICU Lauch Time

PI Interfaces are still very much widespread and as such PI ICU is used frequently by PI Engineers to create and configure interfaces to the PI System.

PI ICU is a frequently used application but in the current layout, every time PI ICU is launched it fetches all the configuration from the PI Servers in a very slow manner. We have multiple interfaces in the same PI server instance and we could be waiting for 5-15 minutes! for the application to launch...

There is no known way to resolve this issue (no configuration tweak nor infrastructure fine tuning which could help).

It will help a lot if the launch mechanism will be looked at and better means shall be found to help the PI engineers launch the application in a reasonable time (a few seconds rather than a few minutes)

    How many PI Interface instances do you have for it to take that long for the PI ICU to launch? The PI ICU launches fast enough for me, but I have at most 7 PI Interface instances for any instance of the PI ICU.


    I suggest that you migrate to AVEVA Adapters. They now have a GUI to configure them: the AVEVA Adapter Configuration Utility, and the configuration is not stored in the PI Module Database. Also, since AVEVA Adapters are basically the successors to PI Interfaces, any complaints that you have with them are more likely to be addressed.
