Compare data over different time ranges on the same trend

As a process engineer, I need to be able to overlay traces on the same trend with data from different time ranges so that I can compare different point in time. This may be the same data item over different time ranges or multiple different data items over different time ranges.

    Hello everyone,

We missed this feature as well and added this functionality to all our symbols. There you can compare different timeranges with each other. If this is interesting just drop me a message: julian.weber(at)werusys.de

Select a trace on a trend and be able to shift the timescale for that trace manually so it is offset from the other traces.

Ability to change X-axis of trend lines individually, ie overlap different time periods on the same chart.

The ability to add an offset to the data for a SPECIFIC plotted trace within a Trend of a few plotted traces is crucial to be able to align trends and compare between them. The end-user should be able to add a positive or negative offset to every trace (HH:MM:SS, or by using PI relative time notations) or drag the trace manually.

A use case for this: Operation in summer months is very different to winter months. The ability to trend different time ranges would allow us to compare 2019 to 2018 summer data, on the same trend (user would be able to select June-to-August data from each year). Also note this "different-time-ranges" feature would really strengthen the analysis capability of PI users if the different-time-ranges can also be applied on an X-Y plot (scatter). The use case is the same, when comparing the scatter of 2019's summer vs 2018's summer you could visualize more easily if there was a shift in the operations data.

You can partially work around this in 2020 by making two charts, setting the background to no fill on one, and then moving it on top of the other. If you make all the settings the same but change the time line to a time relative to the one underneath, it works. But if you change the span of time, it breaks, because now one is following the display and the other is not.

We need to compare a good process run with a bad process run to see what failed, so being able to overlay trends with different time ranges is critical.

As Production engineer, for me it would be great being able to show in one graph sequence events, in a way that I could see the trend of different attributes over one, two or three months, for example.

Hello, I would like to raise a requirement for PI Vision which is especially interesting since the release of PI Vision 2020. Now time ranges for trends can be independent of the global display time range. However I would rather be able to show multiple different time ranges per trend. So basically it should be possible to change the time range the same way as it is now done within PI Vision 2020 per trend but rather per trend line / data source. I would highly appreciate to see this feature within PI Vision 2021.

PI Vision can support multiple time ranges in one display from version 2020 and it's very helpful. I want one more requirement to display multiple time ranges in one single trend symbol when I show multiple data in same trend.
