AF URL attribute object in PI Vision

PI Vision should have a object that gives functionality to open URL´s from AF attributes. It is possibel to use URL´s in AF attributes, it is even possible to open them from system explorer. PI Vision should recon that it is a URL when you drag it into the design pane and automatically create a text object with the URL.

The PI Vision development team has completed work to allow URLs in value and table symbols to act as live hyperlinks on displays in PI Vision 2017 R2. Upgrade to PI Vision 2017 R2 to take advantage of this and other key new features. You can read about what's new in PI Vision 2017 R2 in the release announcement: https://techsupport.osisoft.com/Troubleshooting/Releases/RL01278

I assume the hyperlink to "documents relating to elements" means files that have been checked into the AF under the Value Type > File. I think this is huge. PI AF already has an enterprise setup, being able to expose manuals, etc., protected by that framework to the end user is very desirable. Right now, we'd have to set up a separate file server and embed links into Coresight and then have to manage/secure/accredit that file server for use. So what I'd like to be able to do is create a display where I can navigate to the Value Type > File and drag that into the display as a hyperlink, allowing the user to reach into the AF and pull the file.

Just found this one. Always assumed the URI from the URI builder were clickable... because that's the logical thing to expect from a user perspective...

This would also greatly help with using template pages in Coresight and navigation as a whole. We have thousands of server racks with thousands of power strips that we are bringing into the PI system and being able to make a handful of template sites with AF switches in the hyperlinks to them would save us having to make thousands of individual pages or have the user scroll through thousands of strips to get the one they want. Because we need to have a template for each rack configuration that then references the power strip template we need to be able to have a template reference a template. having this specific request available would enable us to have the AF template auto create the hyperlink and have that be referenced in the site template. There many other things that this could solve as well but this is my current nightmare... "Help me OSISoft, you're my only hope!"

Also make the hyperlink "Element Relative". If an item on the screen represents a hyperlink and functions as a button to open the link, have that hyperlink change depending on the value of the AF attribute for the Asset selected. It is desired to have our Assets have an attribute that is a hyperlink to a mapping tool that locates the asset's position. We can create the hyperlink easily in AF but have no way to use it on a display in Processbook or Vision/Coresight in an element relative manner. We also would like the option to open the link in a new window.

I have been working on an asset monitor infrastructure with multiple machines, each of which can perform one or more roles. Each role has a different associated display. At present, to have a single 'Server' display with links to each role display that the server performs, I must manually create a link for every possible role and disable/hide those that don't exist at the current server. If PIVision links could take their target address from an AF attribute, all this palaver could be done as a simple collection.

This is needed by many customers I have worked with. In my uses-cases it joins metadata content quickly from adjoining systems such as SAP, Meridium.

Is this idea different than: https://feedback.osisoft.com/forums/320517-pi-vision-formerly-pi-coresight/suggestions/12570642-af-attributes-containing-hyperlinks-in-pi-coresigh ?

We currently use a lot of hyperlinks in AF to link to documents relating to elements (Drawings, Manuals on Sharepoint etc). If these could be displayed as hyperlinks on Coresight it would be excellent. Currently i can see the link address in Coresight but cannot follow it

If a data item contains a hyperlink, clicking on the hyperlink in a dynamic symbol, value or table row, changes the current page to the web site specified in the data item/hyperlink. Note: This was previously Enhancement 103365. === In AF, hyperlinks, static or dynamic, are stored in attributes which can update based on the values of other attributes. There is currently no way to display these values in PI Coresight as hyperlinks. Note: This was previously Enhancement 118809.

Is it possible to open on same tab? When clicked is creating a new tab and I'd like just to change the current page.

The current behavior is to always open in a new tab. There is a separate request to support redirecting the display instead of opening in a new tab: https://feedback.osisoft.com/forums/320517/suggestions/38256268. I've gone ahead and added you as a supporter of this request.
