Improve performance bottlenecks and provide guidance for identifying problem displays

In a Technical Support call (01004206) about unresponsive PI Vision displays, a number of performance bottlenecks were identified and the customer was instructed to address these limitations in their displays. However, it would be better (long term) if some of these performance bottlenecks could be addressed in the product. In the shorter term (perhaps), it would be useful to have tools to identify the displays with these issues so that the customer could more easily implement workarounds to solve ongoing performance challenges.


The areas of performance bottlenecks included:

  1. AF attributes with data reference types: URI, string builder, analysis, and custom are all single threaded.

  2. multistates cause additional queries (why not cover this with the cache?)

  3. large numbers of EFs on many assets over a long time range slow down EF searches.
