Unit of measure scaling, dynamically scaling up or down for readability

Provide some way to allow values unit of measure to by dynamically adjusted depending on the underlying raw value. For example, if there is a duration measured in seconds, by the time the value gets into the 000s of seconds it becomes abstract for most people. Have the unit of measure shift to minutes, hours, day, etc. automatically to keep the value human readable. It should also scale down - so instead of 0.041 of a day, it shows 1hr.

It should be optional - as shifting units not used correctly could cause problems. (For example, it should not be permitted if the unit of measure is not being displayed).

This would be especially useful for values that have large ranges.
