PI Batch Interfaces (EFGEN) Performance Counters Reliability

The Batch interfaces currently handle performance counters configuration extremely unreliably.

To explain:

  1. Performance counters are not allowing naming convention to be applied and are forcing hard-coded tags naming giving rise to conflicts between sites using the PI System. Due to that configuration weakness there could be situations when interface services are created with the same Interface ID and thus the same performance counters Tag names prefixes which impacts overall system reliability.

  2. Another issue which makes the counters unreliable is the configuration via BiConfig (EFGEN manager) which is resetting the counters every time it is opened and the administrator working on it is not able to know "what surprises" are waiting for him when saving the settings and running the interface (new counters created, not create.... who knows).

Examples in which we were able to observe the issue so far:
PI Interface for SIEMENS SIMATIC BATCH
AVEVA BATCH MANAGEMENT (former: Wonderware InBatch)

It would help a lot if the reliability and usability of the performance counters will be considered in upcoming versions of EFGEN and its derivatives as these counters can help in catching a lot of issues in monitoring.
