Option to show User Principal Name instead of SAM Account Name of PI Vision User when using Windows Authentication

PI Vision shows the currently logged in PI Vision User in the top corner of the page. If Windows Authentication was used, the SAM Account Name of the Windows user's account is shown. Typically, these will be in the format <domain>\<userName> with the username being part of the user's First and Last names (e.g. domain\JohnSmith or domain\jsmith).

However, some organizations assign a username that do not resemble the actual name of the user but are more of an alphanumeric id (e.g. domain\abc012345). This can make it difficult to easily identify which user the account belongs to at a glance and thus which person that a PI Vision display belongs to or last modified a display.

In contrast, the User Principal Name is typically in a format that does include the user's First Name and/or Last Name (e.g. john.smith@companydomain.com). Therefore, it would be useful to have the option to show either the UserPrincipalName or the SAMAccountName of the Windows user account when using PI Vision.

  • This option should also apply to session information as well as viewing display ownership and user specific settings stored in the PIVision SQL database.

  • PI Vision should be able to associate PI Vision Display and user settings to both the Windows User's SAMAccountName and UserPrincipalName interchangeably.
