Improve performance of Analysis, StringBuilder, and UriBuilder attributes

Performance of PI Vision under load is improved for Analysis, StringBuilder, and UriBuilder attributes.

In a recent Tech Support case (01004206), some PI Vision performance bottlenecks were identified and the customer was directed to address these in affected displays. However, the better, long-term solution is to address these product bottlenecks. In the short term, it is difficult to identify which displays may have the identified issues, so more tools to spotlight displays with poor performance would be useful.

The bottlenecks identified included:

  1. AF attributes with data reference types URI, string buider, analysis, and custom are single-threaded.

    Because of one display, our Production PI Vision was unusable for 3 weeks and blocked 200-300 users per day.

    It took a long time for the tech support to identify it (case 01151629),requiring the analysis of dumpsto find the issue.

    It is now mandatory that AVEVA provides a PI Vision diagnostic tool so we can identify which displays, queries create issues on PI Vision performance on a daily basis.

    In our case, the problem was due to the fact that only one thread is used by PI Vision to resolve Data refernce, formulas... It would be better to use several threads to do it.
