Heat Map

A Heat Map is the universal method to show energy data over time and volume to provide a quick context to issues based on a pattern view.  This requirement is across all industries and mandatory in the facility market place.

Software Athlete offers heat map plugins using extensibility options for PI Vision. Not sure why PI Visions development has been so slow to add more visual tools!

Scott, as long as extensibility makes it easy to integrate third party tools, written in compatable format for Pi Vision 4, then low cost tools can deliver this capabilty such as https://www.highcharts.com/demo/heatmap-canvas/dark-unica . For me the issue is how do OSI Saoft make it low cost and technically easy for the non expert to access and integrate this type of package. I would like to see options to licence a few package suppliers of widgets such as these, and make it simple to integrate. Alternatively you can pay a developer to do the integration for you.

A heat map symbol can be applied for many different use cases like looking at paper sheet profiles, polymer films, etc. You are right that a symbol like this will benefit many different industries.

Extensibility on the platform is a great idea, but as the original post indicated, a heatmap is a very basic and commonly used visualisation. Since it is not a niche use case it would be better to have this functionality "out of the box" as opposed to thousands of PI admins in the world setting up their own custom hacks to let their users have a basic tool.

Scott, if you see this, or if an admin can... Please change the title to "Heat Map / 3D Profiles". ...course, then the votes will blow up and it will be more awkward when it's denied ;)
