Use ISO 8601 Date & Time Format

In my humble opinion, the most sensible date/time format uses 24-hour time and is organised in a most-significant to least-significant sequence, e.g. 2019-07-17 15:15:15.123 The military uses this format because they cannot afford ambiguities, such as when day number is between 1 and 12, or when hour number is 12. So the desired format is: YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss.sss where:- YYYY = four-digit calendar year number MM = zero-padded month number between 01 and 12 DD = zero-padded day number between 01 and 31 HH = zero-padded hour between 00 and 23 mm = zero-padded minute between 00 and 59 ss = zero-padded second between 00 and 59 sss = zero-padded milliseconds between 000 and 999 I'd like this to be the default date/time format in PI Vision. If this is not possible, then I'd like it to be the default within my organisation. If this is not possible, then I'd like individual users to be able to select their preferred date/time format (as is possible in PI ProcessBook). Refs: ISO 8601; ANSI INCITS 30-1997 (R2008); NIST FIPS PUB 4-2

The OP hits the issue square on the head, and describes potential resolutions excellently. The ISO format removes ambiguity, and the clunkiness of AM/PM. Time is continuous, and it's best when represented and documented that way. The use of AM/PM is cumbersome, and can lead to mistakes.

We need the ability to adjust the time format based on the individual item. We have different departments that want to see things in different ways. This should be available like in Processbook.

Dear Mark, I stumbled across your post when looking for a solution for exactly the same thing. Did you find a solution in the meanwhile? I'm able to change the date/time format by changing the culture in web.config (C:\Program Files\PIPC\PIVision) to Default is: but this actually changes more then I want. Regards, Martin
